My Epiphany

“There’s nothing better when something comes and hits you and you think ‘YES’!”
― J.K. Rowling, Created the Awesome Harry Potter Series

I was taking a course a few weeks back on drop shipping and I began noticing something about the course.

In fact, I began noticing this about ALL the courses I’d taken EVER. Even in college.

The course was about 40 hours long and weeks’ worth of work. It was a huge time sync.

I made a store and had some success. I still run it and follow through with it, but it’s really become a side hustle.

I say this because, in my moment of clarity, I saw where the REAL money and REAL business model I thought was pure gold lies.

Allow me to explain…

Google & YouTube

I began by asking myself these questions.

How do I dropship? Well, Google it.

Such a common response these days.

How do I build a fence? Watch a YouTube video.

I hear this a lot as well.

How do I improve my marketing capabilities? Read a book.

Another normal response.

Here’s my point.

Monetizing information is where the REAL money lies.

Google now processes over 40,000 search queries every second on average, which translates to over 3.5 billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide. (Read more in-depth on this information here.)

People are searching for information!

And Google is getting PAID. Almost 33 Billion dollars in 3 months kind of pay.

YouTube is the second largest search platform out there.

The average number of mobile YouTube video views per day is 1,000,000,000. 1 billion views a day. (Read more here on this statistic.)

Even now, you’re on Medium, searching for answers or just reading and learning.

My Realization

“Success is your duty, obligation, and responsibility.”

– Grant Cardone, Best Sales Person Ever

I was sitting there taking the course and hearing how people make $5,379 a month on autopilot. I researched around and found EcommerceFuel which is where huge drop shippers and importers hang out. I knew it was definitely true and possible to make a profitable store.

I worked hard for months on my store. I have made autopilot money even though it’s not at $200,000/mo yet.

I say this because the courses do work if you follow them, but the HUGE money is actually…in the courses!

People just build courses and sell them. They write books and sell them.

It removes time from money, which equals wealth.

Think about it, you make a 40-hour course in 120 hours. Then you sell it for $500. 10,000 people buy your course, so $500 * 10,000 people = 5 million dollars.

That’s $41,667 dollars an hour for your initial 120. Beats $20 an hour am I right?

Oh, and that 120 hours of work you spent, it’s over. You don’t have to make a course 9 to 5, 40 hours a week.

That’s why when you remove TIME from MONEY it equals WEALTH.

Let’s talk about How this is created,

Building information products can be achieved in 3 steps:

  1. Research information and target audience
  2. Digest and Segment information into a course, book, or service
  3. Disseminate the information by marketing and advertising

1. Research Information and Audience

The path to success is to take massive, determined action.

– Tony Robbins, Super Motivational Speaker

You need content. Not just any content, GREAT content.

The content needs to be tested, refined, and backed with results in some way.

Let’s keep rolling with drop shipping. I’ll give you a rough overview of how you can find some quality information.

If I were to make a drop shipping course, I would research information on the hottest trends in drop shipping by looking at competitors.

I would then take a few free courses and build my own store.

After that, if my store was successful, I’d make some videos and create a course. Depending on the level of success is the level of price I’d charge.

Now, this seems fairly straightforward and easy but it’s a ton of work.

This cat knows.

It’s like writing a book.

You have to spend months researching, analyzing, and EXPERIENCING how the process works before you can explain it.

Yes, the experience is the key. How can I make a video on building a fence when I’ve never built one??

It’s always tricky to find an audience for whatever it is you’re looking to create information for.

If I’m making a book on “50 New Recipes with Squash” then I will want to see who’s into cooking.

One of the best tips I can give you is to utilize Facebook’s business managersection. Just head in there and use the Insights Tool. If you struggle to get in, make a business Facebook page.

The Insights Tool tells you age ranges, states, and interests of users on Facebook.

Let’s say you find an audience of 1 million people for Women & Men, an age of 24–30 that cook. They are married and have kids. That’s a really great audience to sell this cookbook to. They are new to cooking and could use the help!

2. Digest and Segment Information into A Course, Book, or Service

Now we have information and an audience.

We need to organize the information into easily viewable content that helps the consumer become a better version of themselves.

Obviously, profit is important, but your main focal point should be helping people by gathering information they’re searching for.

The best part about gathering information is that….it’s free! Well, except for time.

There are some amazing Free courses out there.

A lot of times you can test the potential market for a course by making a mini free course.

Make a 5 video series for an hour on your niche, then make it free and post it up places. After 100 views on each video, you begin making your course in greater depth.

These mini goals help build momentum that will carry you for months to create your course and show you what you really know about the niche.

After making 1 successful course and helping people, you can just repeat the process.

You just need a recording device, experience, and a lot of time on your hands.

The Millionaire Next Door is a fantastic example of an information product.

The authors interviewed hundreds of millionaires and looked for commonalities on how they became so wealthy.

They digested the information into charts and easy to read chapters. They also used some amazing stories.

My favorite is 80% of millionaires are made first generation.

I have hope.

That means if your family struggled growing up, you still have an 80% chance to be a millionaire according to their studies.

I also want to throw blogging into this category. When you’re writing and getting paid through blogging, it’s just like writing a mini book.

You can test your articles and see if people like what you have to say and make your book.

You can also just make an awesome blog and not even write a book.

Another method you can do is to make a service.

What do I mean by that?

I consider Medium a service because it’s a place where people come to learn and gather information from tons of different experiences.

Quora is another amazing service that allows people to ask and answer questions.

The point here is that you can design a platform to gather information.

Let’s say you make an app about learning languages. Duolingo did it. It’s Free but they monetize through ads.

People just gather information and put it onto a friendly platform that can be used by millions of people.

This does take massive action though.

3. Disseminate the Information by Marketing and Advertising

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.

– Les Brown, Motivational Speaker

The final step is getting your product out there.

There are tons of ways to market and advertise products.

Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Pinterest Ads, Twitter Ads, even Amazon Ads.

And this is just a few ways to get eyes on your product.

This is one of the hardest parts for me, personally.

You have to continually be testing your ads and seeing which are performing better. Personally, I advise only using 1 platform and learning it to proficiency.

Social networks can help drive free traffic but at the same time, a lot of people get caught looking at cat memes. This hinders productivity, but if you stay on the business manager side of the house, you won’t be as tempted.

Free traffic takes a long time. It is free though.

Paid traffic takes a short time. It does take an investment though.

Make sure you use metrics and feedback to determine if your product is good or not.

If you have 10,000 views but 0 buys for your book, it’s probably not a good book.

Don’t be afraid of this though, learn from it. Have people give you feedback so you can fix your book and try again. That’s how success testing.

These courses make money by creating the courses! Yes, they make it from doing what they created, but there is far more success in being the creator.
